Calvert Hall College High School is mourning the loss of Jeffrey “Jeff” Nattans, a respected alumnus, accomplished business leader, and longtime supporter of the institution, who passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Nattans, a member of the Class of 1985 and the current Chair of the school’s Board of Trustees, leaves behind a legacy of leadership, service, and unwavering dedication to the Baltimore Catholic education community.
The announcement of his death was met with profound sadness across the Calvert Hall community, where Nattans had spent decades helping shape the future of the school he loved. As Board Chair, he played a central role in guiding strategic initiatives and strengthening the institution’s mission, earning the admiration of students, faculty, alumni, and fellow trustees alike.
A standout student-athlete during his years at Calvert Hall, Nattans excelled both academically and athletically. He distinguished himself as a two-sport athlete in soccer and basketball while establishing a reputation for discipline, determination, and leadership—qualities that would define his life and career long after graduation.
Following his time at Calvert Hall, Nattans attended Loyola University Maryland, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Accounting. His collegiate years were marked by extraordinary success both in the classroom and on the athletic field. A four-year starter on Loyola’s soccer team and co-captain of the basketball team during his senior season, he earned numerous honors, including being named the Northeast Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 1988–89. His achievements also earned him a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Nattans’ passion for soccer continued beyond college. He played professionally for the Maryland Bays and helped lead the team to the 1990 American professional soccer championship, adding another significant accomplishment to an already impressive athletic résumé.
Determined to continue expanding his knowledge and leadership skills, Nattans later attended Harvard Business School, where he earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1996. The advanced education paved the way for a distinguished career in finance, investment management, and business leadership.
Throughout his professional journey, Nattans held senior leadership positions at some of the most respected organizations in the financial industry, including Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Legg Mason, Franklin Templeton, Sagamore Ventures, and Black Diamond Financial. Colleagues frequently described him as a strategic thinker whose integrity, professionalism, and commitment to excellence made him a trusted leader and mentor.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nattans remained deeply committed to educational, charitable, and community organizations. His dedication to service led him to serve on the Board of Trustees of Loyola University Maryland from 2019 to 2023 before returning to the board in 2024. He also contributed significantly to Catholic Charities of Baltimore, serving on its Board of Trustees and participating in both its Finance and Investment Committees.
Additionally, Nattans supported educational opportunities for future generations through his work on the Investment Committee of the Knott Scholarship Funds, helping advance programs that benefit students throughout Maryland.
His many achievements were recognized by institutions that had played significant roles in his life. In 1998, he was inducted into the Loyola University Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame, honoring his exceptional contributions as a student-athlete. Four years later, Calvert Hall inducted him into its Alumni Hall of Fame, making him the youngest recipient of the honor at the time. In 2008, his impact on the sport of soccer was further recognized with induction into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame.
For many within the Calvert Hall community, however, Nattans’ greatest accomplishments were not found in awards or titles but in the relationships he built and the lives he influenced. Friends and colleagues remember him as a compassionate leader whose generosity, humility, and commitment to others consistently guided his actions.
Calvert Hall President Brother John Kane, FSC, paid tribute to Nattans’ extraordinary contributions and character.
“Jeff embodied what it means to be a Hallman,” Kane said. “His love for Calvert Hall was evident in his unwavering commitment to our mission, our students, and the Brotherhood that meant so much to him. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, Jeff led with wisdom, integrity, and a genuine desire to ensure that The Hall remained strong for generations to come. His leadership helped shape the future of Calvert Hall, but it was his friendship, generosity, and deep devotion to this community that will be his lasting legacy.”
The impact of Nattans’ passing extends far beyond the walls of Calvert Hall. Across educational, charitable, business, and athletic communities, tributes have begun highlighting the many ways he devoted his time, expertise, and resources to helping others succeed.
Above all else, those closest to him remember him as a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Spencer Nattans, a member of Calvert Hall’s Class of 2019; his father, retired Brigadier General Joe Nattans Sr., Class of 1960; his mother, Linda; his stepmother, Donna; and his brothers, Joe Nattans Jr., Class of 1983, and John Nattans, Class of 1986.
As the Calvert Hall community mourns his loss, many are reflecting on a life defined by achievement, service, and a steadfast commitment to uplifting others. His contributions to education, athletics, business, and philanthropy will continue to be felt for years to come.
Funeral and memorial service arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days. Until then, students, alumni, faculty members, and friends continue to honor the memory of a man whose influence helped shape countless lives and whose legacy will remain deeply woven into the fabric of Calvert Hall College High School.
